County Welcomes K-9 Lord to the Dane County Regional Airport

Madison, WI -- The Dane County Regional Airport and Dane County Sheriff’s Office recently welcomed the newest member of the Dane County Bomb Squad to the job – a two-year old K-9 explosive ordnance detector (EOD) dog named Lord, originally from Holland.
“Skilled canines like Lord help make our busy airport safe and secure for travelers and visitors,” said County Executive Joe Parisi. “We owe a great deal to the dedicated men and women of the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, and their K-9 co-workers, who keep all parts of Dane County safe.”
The Dane County Regional Airport purchased Lord. On the job, Lord and his handler, Deputy Scott Lindner, will conduct searches of airplanes, unattended or suspicious packages, freight from the loading dock, and other safety and security checks as needed.
“We welcome Lord all the way from Holland to Dane County,” said Airport Director Bradley Livingston. “Deputy Lindner and Lord provide an exceptional level of service to the airport and county.”
An explosive detection canine is trained to detect odors associated with explosives and can be utilized in many ways to search vehicles, luggage, aircraft, and crime scenes. There are many other methods and types of equipment used to detect explosives, but the most popular is still the Explosives Detector Dog. Lord is certified in explosive detection techniques through the North American Police Work Dog Association and is trained in 19 explosive odors.
"Through the very generous financial support by the Dane County Airport, our new EOD K-9 will now be ready to protect Dane County citizens and our region of Wisconsin serviced by the Sheriff's Office EOD Team." said Sheriff David Mahoney.
