Silverwood County Park Holds First Open House Harvest Fest!

You are invited to explore Dane County’s first sustainable agriculture classroom!

On Saturday, August 23rd, from 1 – 5 pm, please join us at the Silverwood Harvest Open House Fest, Silverwood County Park, 771 Silver Lane, Edgerton, WI  53534.

Throughout the afternoon there will be a variety of activities and events, including Wormfarm Institute, Truly Remarkable Loon Magic, kids crafts, food provided by Slow Food, presentation displays, music by Tom Kalhagen and much, much more!

Silverwood Park educates the public on the broad and diverse aspects of Wisconsin agriculture – past, present and future. The park celebrates the rich cultural history of agriculture in Dane County as well as demonstrating innovative agricultural practices and land stewardship that sustains the land for future generations.

The Friends Of Silverwood Park (FOSP) have crafted guiding principles to bring education to farmers, students and the general public regarding sustainable agriculture. Included in their goal is providing support to landless farmers, and making quality produce available to local and regional food pantries.

In addition to scheduled farm tours, the Fest will also feature Ten Variations on a Theme – ten artistic installations in ten corn cribs around the farm.  In conjunction, a community conversation focusing on what art has to do with sustainable agriculture will take place from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. Several Dane County artists, including Arthur Durkee, Thomas Ferrella, Emily McCabe, Mark Nelson, Rebecca Power, Kyle Richmond, John Steines/David Ott, Amy Wencel, and Michael Winter, will participate, as well as folks from the Wormfarm Institute (Fermentation Fest, Decomposition) in Reedsburg, WI who will share their model of combining farming with artist residencies.
