County Board Holding Hearing for District 28

September 15, 2015
Sharon Corrigan, County Board Chair
County Board

Today, Supervisor Abigail Wuest issued the following statement:

“I am very sad to announce that I must resign from the Dane County Board of Supervisors. My resignation will take effect on immediately.”

“My family has decided that it is best for all of us to move closer to downtown Madison, where both my husband and I work. Since the birth of our son, Sal, in March, commuting to our home in the Town of Cross Plains has become increasingly burdensome.”

“I have loved my time on the board; and I have been honored to serve the interests of my constituents in District 28.  Ours is a beautiful, diverse, thriving area, and I hope to help the board find a qualified candidate to replace me until the upcoming elections in April.  I want to thank everyone in the towns and villages of District 28 for their support and help in learning how to represent them, and for the great honor to do so for the past year and a half.”

Dane County Board Chair Sharon Corrigan has announced the process for filling the vacancy in Supervisory District 28 in Western Dane County (Towns of Berry, Black Earth, Blue Mounds, Cross Plains, Mazomanie and Vermont; Villages of Black Earth, Blue Mounds, Cross Plains, and Mazomanie).

County ordinances provide for a vacancy in the office of county supervisor occurring at this point in the term to be filled by temporary appointment by the County Board chairperson within one month, with confirmation by the County Board. The appointed individual would serve the remainder of the term (until April 18, 2016). The intention is that the Board will act on the appointment at its meeting on October 15th, at the regularly scheduled Board meeting. The annual salary is currently $8,200.

“Individuals interested in the District 28 vacancy must submit a Declaration of Candidacy and appointment papers containing a minimum of 25 signatures of electors in the District to the Office of the Dane County Clerk, City-County Building, Room 106A, by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2015,” said County Clerk Scott McDonell.  “Appointment papers may only be circulated by the candidate,” he added.

Nomination papers can either be picked up in the County Clerk’s Office or may be found on the County Clerk’s website:  https://www.countyofdane.com/clerk/supervisor_filing.aspx

A public hearing will be conducted by County Board Chair Corrigan on Tuesday October 6th, 2015  at 6:00 p.m. in the Step Room of the Wisconsin Height High School, 10173 US-14, Mazomanie, WI 53560.  Interested parties are asked to attend the hearing to describe their qualifications for the position.   Members of the public may testify at the hearing and will have a limit of 3 minutes.  Questions regarding the process can be addressed to the County Board Office at 266-4533.
