Town of Westport Fatality Crash

At approximately 10:10 am, Dane County Sheriff’s deputies, along with Deforest and Waunakee Police, the Wisconsin State Patrol, UW Med Flight, and Waunakee Fire and EMS, responded to State Highway 19 and River Road for a dump truck vs car crash.

 

The driver of a 2009 Toyota Venza was northbound on River Road when he failed to yield from a stop sign to a 2007 Mack truck that was westbound on Highway 19.  The driver of the Venza, a 33-year-old man from Windsor, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.  He was pronounced dead at the scene by a UW Med Flight physician.  His name will be released by the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office after notifications have been made.

 

The Mack truck, operated by Anthony Helt, age 64 of Middleton, was carrying a full load of gravel, and came to rest in a farm field, where it started on fire.  Helt was not injured in the crash.
