Last week the Dane County  Sheriff’s Office introduced MorpholDent fingerprint scanners, a new device being tested in two Traffic Team squad cars.  The technology showed immediate promise by helping to identify individuals quickly, without having to transport them to another location.

On Tuesday, April 22nd, the technology again proved useful, but in a more non-traditional way.  Madison Police and the Dane County Medical Examiners Office were called to a death investigation near 2914 Industrial Drive in the City of Madison.  The deceased male was transported by the Medical Examiner to the morgue, where a Dane County Sheriff’s deputy trained in the operation of the MorpholDent used the technology to take the man’s fingerprint.  Within minutes, they had identified the 37-year-old.  Madison Police do not consider this a suspicious death, and the man is believed to have no permanent address.

Once again, these devices saved a significant amount of time and resources.  The Dane County Sheriff’s Office will continue to test the mobile fingerprint devices over the next few months.
