Dane County Executive Joe Parisi announced today that the second phase of necessary repairs and upgrades totaling $3.6 million will move forward this spring for Monona Drive (County Highway BB).

“These important safety and aesthetic upgrades are a testament to how local governments working together can do great things for residents and businesses,” said Parisi.  “Monona Drive is a well-traveled gateway to wonderful communities in Dane County.”

The second phase of Monona Drive’s planned improvements, from Winnequah Road to Cottage Grove Road, will begin in April.  Upgrades to the route will include a new surface, bike lanes, and pedestrian facilities.  While the road will be open to traffic, it will be limited to one lane in each direction.

“Monona Drive is a transportation life-line for our community,” said Monona Mayor Bob Miller.  “We’re proud to partner with the county and others to finish these important construction projects and look forward to the benefits they will provide everyone who visits and lives in Monona.”

The project is a partnership with the Cities of Madison and Monona, with those communities contributing $465,000 and $543,000 respectively.

The Dane County Board and the County Executive recently approved the county’s $880,000 share of the Monona Drive project, one of three major county road upgrades to begin this spring.  The county has also approved moving forward on a $15 million reconstruction for University Ave (County Highway MS) from Allen Boulevard to Segoe Road and $3.7 million in repairs for Fish Hatchery Road (County Highway D) spanning from Wingra Drive to Emil Street.
