‘Next of Kin’ Continues Strong Tradition by Local Artists, Highlights Best of Dane County

The 2012 Art Posterfrom the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission now is available by voluntary donation at locations throughout Dane County.  This year’s poster features the painting, “Next of Kin” by local artist Jacob A Pfeiffer. Pfeiffer tells the story of the painting: “I created this painting after learning that my wife was expecting our second child.  The 3 pumpkins represent my wife, my daughter and myself…The “Next of Kin” turned out to be my son, Judah Don Pfeiffer!  The pumpkins were picked from Eugster’s Farm in Stoughton, WI.”  The 2012 art poster was produced with financial support from Alliant Energy and designed by Lois Bergerson.

“Every year the Cultural Affairs Commission Art Poster treats us to an exciting offering from a talented local artist,” said Dane County Executive Joe Parisi.  “This year’s poster is yet another  testament to the vibrant arts community that contributes so much to our quality of life and  local economy in Dane County.”

Artist Jacob Pfeiffer

Jacob A. Pfeiffer is a young artist who lives in Madison, WI with his wife and two children.  Pfeiffer's technique is impeccable, precise, and uncannily accurate. His latest work consists of tightly rendered still-lifes containing a wide variety of objects. Purposefully provocative compositions are constructed with meticulous and time consuming craftsmanship. A rich and deeply saturated palette is used to depict a myriad of complex textures. Pfeiffer designs his spaces with a deceptive simplicity that resonates with a sense of volume, drama, power and above all, humor. The resulting work has found a wide array of admiring collectors and has also garnered the attention of the art press, being featured in American Arts Quarterly, Art News, The Artist’s Magazine and gracing the covers of American Artist, Southwest Art and American Art Collector. His inclusion in several high profile museum shows attest to the status of this successful young artist.  For more information about Jacob Pfeiffer, see www.jacobapfeiffer.com.

“We are proud and pleased to share Jacob Pfeiffer’s brilliant artistry with all of Dane County and beyond,” remarked Karen Crossley, Commission Director. “Our 2012 art poster showcases a talented young local artist, features local produce, and shares a sweet personal story. We are thrilled to present this gift and share it far and wide.”
