Group to Gather Information, Tour  in Preparation for Dane County’s
Hosting Duties in 2015

A delegation of representatives from Dane County’s agriculture industry will gather at the Outagamie County Farm Technology Days tomorrow to gain information and advice in preparation of Dane County’s hosting duties in 2015, Dane County Executive Joe Parisi announced today.

“It’s an honor to be the host county for Farm Technology Days in 2015 and we’re visiting Outagamie County’s event to learn all we can about putting on a first-class show,” said Parisi.  “Dane County’s farm families are the most productive in the state.  Farm Technology Days will be a fitting showcase for the hard work they do to keep lunch and dinner tables full in Dane County.”

The County Executive will lead the delegation as it meets with Outagamie County Executive Thomas Nelson’s administration and Outagamie County Farm Tech Days organizers at the Heideman and Sugar Creek Farms in New London.  The Dane County delegation will then tour the event grounds.

“I thought it would be helpful for Joe to come and see the event in action prior to Dane County’s hosting responsibilities in 2015,” Nelson said. “Of course, I also welcome any opportunity to show off Outagamie County to friends and colleagues throughout the state!”

Dane County was selected to host the 2015 Farm Technology Days in April.  The last time the event was hosted by Dane County was in 1986 at the Rauls & Treinen farms.  Considered the largest agriculture show in Wisconsin, and one of the largest in the nation, Farm Tech Days showcases innovations in production agriculture.

The three-day event has the potential to attract up to 60,000 attendees to an area.  Pierce County hosted Technology Days in 2010 and reported a total economic impact of over $1.8 million and the creation of 33 jobs.  Dane County UW-Extension staff are currently working with leaders in the county’s agriculture community to assemble the Executive Board that will help organize and execute Dane County’s Farm Tech Days in 2015.

The group will work with community partners to find a host farm for the event and recruit the more than 1,000 volunteers needed to make the event a success.  Families interested in hosting the event or volunteering can contact Lee Jennings, Dane County UW-Extension Crops & Soils Agent, at 608-224-3716 or at jennings.lee@countyofdane.com.
