For Immediate Release

Dane County Executive Joe Parisi issued the following statement after an arbitration panel ruled the 2012 budget request by the Capital Area Regional Planning Commission (CARPC) to the county was unreasonable and cut CARPC’s budget by $60,000 for next year.

“I’m pleased the panel of arbitrators agreed that CARPC’s request for an 18% budget increase from Dane County taxpayers was unreasonable, especially in light of the current budget challenges facing all publicly financed entities.

At a time when county funded programs are facing layoffs and reduced salaries and services, it’s only reasonable to expect some shared sacrifice from an advisory agency.  This is especially relevant given the non-taxpayer sources of revenue CARPC has yet to pursue, namely collecting fees from developers who see great financial gain from the projects CARPC reviews and almost always approves.

CARPC’s budget request for 2012 is just one of the many challenges this group is facing .   I’ll continue to work with local officials and other stakeholders to ensure CARPC fulfills its original mission.”
