Dane County Board Elects Officers

April 18, 2012
Supervisor Scott McDonell, Chair Dane County Board of Supervisors (279-6984)
County Board

The Dane County Board Chair Scott McDonell (district 1, Madison) and Vice Chair John Hendrick (district 6, Madison)  retained their seats by wide margins last night as the Board of Supervisors elected officers at its  biennial organizational meeting.  Each received 28 votes of the 36 members voting, with one supervisor absent.

McDonell has served as County Board Chair since 2005; with this election, by the end of the term, he will become the second-longest serving Dane County Board Chair in Dane County’s 155 year history.  Only Frank Stewart, who served as Chair for 13 years during the Great Depression and World War II, will have served longer.

“The results of the supervisor elections and the re-election of Board officers are a strong endorsement of the current direction of the County Board,” said Hendrick.  “In the face of threats to collective bargaining, the county budget and the environment, the county needs strong and consistent leadership - just like in Frank Stewart’s day.”

The County Board also elected Supervisor Carousel Bayrd (district 8, Madison) to the position of Second Vice-Chair and Supervisors Ripp (district 29, Springfield) and Corrigan (district 26, Middleton) as Sergeants-at-Arms.

“This is a strong slate of officers from throughout Dane County and I look forward to a productive year,” said McDonell. “The County Board has taken the lead in several initiatives in the past couple years, including protecting our lakes and improving access to mental health care. This slate of officers will lead us to continued progress and great things in the coming years.”
