Dane County Executive Joe Parisi encouraged residents and visitors to join in Dane County’s year-long 175th birthday celebration this fall with the fourth and final opportunity to participate in the “Day in Dane” community photo album, and a fun 175th themed corn maze for families to enjoy at Sutter’s Ridge farm in Mt. Horeb.

“Dane County shines this time of year – from fall colors on the trees to the bright blue skies currently in the forecast for this weekend,” said Parisi.  “It’s the perfect time to get outside with your friends and family and celebrate our county’s 175th birthday.”

During a Day in Dane, people are encouraged to submit one photo during a 24-hour period that they feel showcases what Dane County means to them.  The final Day in Dane will take place from Noon on Friday, October 7th until Noon on Saturday, October 8th.  Photos must be submitted by October 16th.

Directions on how to participate in the community photo album are attached.  Photo submissions will be considered for use on the annual art poster produced by the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission.  Photos from Days in Dane can be found at the following website: http://www.flickr.com/photos/danecounty175

The County Executive noted that a great opportunity for a Day in Dane photo could be found at the 175th themed corn maze at Sutter’s Ridge farm in Mt. Horeb.  Visitors can enjoy a day on the farm, winding their way through a 3-acre maze, and afterwards, head to Donald Park, one of 12 featured natural spaces on the 2011 Dane County Passports.

Three passports exist that can introduce, or reacquaint, area families with Dane County’s outdoors.  The passports highlight the Dane County Yahara Chain of Lakes, Early Settlers of Dane County, and the Glacial History of Dane County.  Each passport comes with fun trivia – passport holders can submit their answers online and enter to win $25 toward passes to enjoy Dane County parks, trails and waterways.

The three separate passports are available at the Dane County 175th Anniversary website located at:  http://danecounty175.org/passport.aspx
