The Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission announces its 2011 Call for Art and theme, Locally Yours. Artists are invited to submit art for consideration and inclusion in the Commission’s signature 2013 art calendar and 2012 art poster and companion bookmark. The 2013 calendar will be the 14th edition and 2012 poster the 34nd  in an annual series.  Each year, thousands of calendars, posters, and bookmarks are distributed throughout Dane County and beyond.  They have become beloved icons that highlight the vitality of Dane County’s artistic and cultural landscape.

Theme for 2011 art submissions is Locally Yours.  In the Commission’s 2013 art calendar and 2012 art poster, showcased art will characterize and highlight the distinctiveness of Dane County local culture.  Included might be depictions of our local towns, villages and cities; people and places that distinctly represent what makes Dane County unique; or a more broad interpretation of our local culture or history.  Favored images will provocatively and positively evoke Dane County in some way.  Broad and creative interpretation of the Locally Yours theme is welcomed.  Representation of the seasons and annual cycle is desired.  How do you go local in Dane County?  Where do you staycation?  Whether it’s appreciating local art in Paoli or Stoughton, cheering on the Badgers at Camp Randall Stadium, admiring  fall colors in Brigham Park, biking on the Capital City trail, canoeing along the Yahara River, ice fishing on Lake Waubesa, skiing in the Arboretum, shopping at a local farmer’s market…show us how and why you are passionate about Dane County and how you and others go local every day.

The Commission’s Art Advisory Committee will select images based on a variety of criteria including:  evocation and representation of Dane County, artistic quality, balance of seasonal representations of Dane County, market appeal, and illustration of the theme. Artists must be Wisconsin residents at the time of application, and Dane County artists receive strong preference. Two-dimensional art in all mediums will be considered.  All images submitted will be considered for selection.  Fourteen images likely will be chosen for the calendar and one or more images likely for the poster and bookmark.

The deadline for submissions is September 1, 2011. Applicants will be notified by December 31, 2011. Full application instructions are available on the Commission’s website: www.culturalaffairscommission.com.

Artists selected for inclusion in the calendar will be awarded $100 per image for reproduction rights. Artist selected for the poster/bookmark will be awarded up to $500 for reproduction rights.  Honoraria subject to change based upon design.  All artists selected also receive a small supply of free calendars, or posters and bookmarks for personal use.
