Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk today signed a resolution authorizing nearly a quarter of a million dollars in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding received by the county to help repair the sanitary sewer system in Morrisonville.
If an application for the project is approved by the State Department of Commerce, the county will contribute $243,000 to help fix the sewer system. During last summer’s flooding rains a number of homeowners in Morrisonville experienced sewer back-ups into their residences.
Many had to replace furnaces, washing machines, furniture and walls because of sewer and mold contamination. In some homes, water was up to waist deep in their basements.
"This important project will hopefully reduce the risk of this kind of devastation when future heavy rains hit Morrisonville,” Falk said. “This is not only a matter of protecting property, it’s also a health and safety issue.”
Town of Windsor chair Alan Harvey said, “The needs of the Morrisonville neighborhood are pressing and real. Windsor welcomes this partnership opportunity with Dane County to seek assistance for Morrisonville.”
Under the assistance program the county is applying to on behalf of Morrisonville, the county needs to first commit its $243,000 share. If the application is successful, up to the remainder of the project’s $1.29 million dollar total cost would be paid for by funding under the Wisconsin Small Cities Community Development Block-Emergency Assistance public facilities program. These dollars are intended to help repair and rebuild water and sewer infrastructure damaged during the storms and flooding that affected southern Wisconsin last June and July.
Pending state, Dane County CDBG Commission, and the county board approval, work on the sewer system repair project can begin.
Morrisonville is an unincorporated community located in the Town of Windsor.
