Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk announced today she’s appointed Travis Myren as Director of Dane County’s Department of Administration (DOA).

Since 2002, Myren has served as the Department’s Deputy Director in which he provided direct oversight to a number of divisions and agencies within county government and managed 130 full time employees.

Also in his role as Deputy Director, Myren served as part of the Department’s budget team and has been instrumental in the development of Dane County’s annual budget.  This year’s budget totals $493-million.

“For many years Dane County has benefited from Travis’ bright ideas and the work ethic he learned growing up on his family’s 4th generation dairy farm in Buffalo County.  He has the right combination of skills and experience to help guide our county through these times,” Falk said.

The Department of Administration oversees all day to day operations of county government and includes the Controller’s Office, Office of Management and Budget, and the Divisions of Employee Relations, Information Management, Administrative Services, Risk Management, Facilities Management, and Consolidated Food Services.  It has a total annual budget of over $37-million.

In addition to providing administrative oversight on large public works projects and administering energy efficiency projects throughout county facilities, Myren recently oversaw the very successful recruitment process for the county’s hire of a nationally award-winning Director of Public Safety Communications.

Myren earned his Masters Degree in Public Affairs and Administration from the La Follette Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1999.  He graduated Summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1997.

Myren had been serving as Interim DOA Director since the departure of Bonnie Hammersley who served as Director of Administration for the county until March 20th when she accepted the position of Administrator of Muskegon County, Michigan.

Pending county board confirmation, Myren will start in his new role immediately with a starting salary of $120,521.
