Madison, WI. March 30, 2010 – At approximately 8:10 p.m., Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies and Belleville Fire and EMS, New Glarus, Verona, Brooklyn and Monticello Fire Departments, responded to 7497 Montrose Road, in the Town of Montrose, for a barn fire. The owner called the Communications Center when he saw flames emitting from the barn area.

The first arriving deputy reported the barn was fully engulfed in flames. The adjacent granary also quickly caught on fire. The barn, which was raised in 1876, was not currently being used and did not contain any animals or property. The barn and granary are considered complete losses. A damage estimate is unavailable at this time.

Montrose Road, between Highway PB and Fritz Road, remains closed while firefighters continue to battle the fire. An exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
