Public Encouraged to Attend, Offer Input as County Compiles Five Year Blueprint for Parks, Outdoor Recreation

Dane County Parks is hosting a meeting this Wednesday evening to hear from the public on where people would like recreational opportunities like dog  parks, public hunting grounds, or disc golf courses created.  This hearing will help the county as it compiles its five-year Dane County Parks and Open Space Plan.

This plan guides future park and trail development and is updated every five years to ensure Dane County remains eligible for state grant funding used to preserve and create new outdoor recreational opportunities.

“Regardless of age, our politics, or where we live, one of the values we share as Dane County citizens is our love and appreciation of being outdoors and enjoying the terrific natural resources just out our front door,” County Executive Kathleen Falk said.

In advance of the meeting, Falk submitted to the Parks Commission recommendations from a six-month “Bike Dane” planning group convened by County Executive Falk that details specific routes and trails to improve commuter and recreational biking opportunities.  Recommendations were received from bicycle event coordinators, bicycle business owners, representatives of local cities, towns and villages, transportation planners and bike advocates.

Wednesday’s meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. at the Lussier Family Heritage Center, located at 3101 Lake Farm Road, Madison.
