February 03, 2010
Karen Crossley, Director, 266-5915
County Executive

The Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission announces its 2010 Call for Art and its theme, Our Dane County Home. Artists are invited to submit art for consideration and inclusion in the Commission’s signature 2012 art calendar and 2011 art poster and companion bookmark. The 2012 calendar will be the 13th edition and 2011 poster the 33nd  in an annual series.  Each year, thousands of calendars, posters, and bookmarks are distributed throughout Dane County and beyond.  They have become beloved icons that highlight the vitality of Dane County’s artistic and cultural landscape.

Theme for 2010 art submissions is Our Dane County Home.  In the Commission’s 2012 art calendar and 2011 art poster, showcased art will be images that characterize and highlight the distinctiveness of our Dane County home. Included might be literal depictions of our homes; the towns, villages and cities where we reside; people and places that distinctly represent what makes Dane County home; or a more broad interpretation of our local homestead.  Favored images will provocatively and positively evoke Dane County in some way. They will highlight attributes and features that fondly remind us of Dane County. Broad and creative interpretation of the Our Dane County Home theme is welcomed.

The Commission’s Art Advisory Committee will select images based on a variety of criteria including artistic quality, balance of seasonal representations of Dane County, market appeal, and illustration of the theme. Artists must be Wisconsin residents at the time of application, and Dane County artists receive preference. Two-dimensional art in all mediums will be considered.  Selections will be made from images submitted.  Fourteen images likely will be chosen for the calendar and one image likely for the poster and bookmark.

The deadline for submissions is September 1, 2010. Applicants will be notified by December 31, 2010. Full application instructions are available on the Commission’s website: www.culturalaffairscommission.com.

Artists selected for inclusion in the calendar will be awarded $100 per image for reproduction rights. The selected artist for the poster will be awarded $500 for reproduction rights.
