Sheriff's Office

For most, the extended Memorial Day weekend marks the start of summer fun. With festivities like Bratfest on Willow Island and other local celebrations, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind motorists to plan ahead for possible traffic delays, allow extra time to reach your destination safely, and always wear your seatbelt. Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies will be assisting with traffic direction near the Dane County Coliseum, and will also be providing additional patrols throughout the county for speed and OWI (Operating While Intoxicated) enforcement. Even with traffic direction present, delays may occur around the Coliseum, and motorists should avoid that area if at all possible. With sunshine in the forecast, boaters will also be venturing out on Madison lakes, many for the first time this year. Before you’re on the water, check your boat to ensure that all of the required equipment is in working condition, and that everyone on board has a personal floatation device available. Marine and Trail Deputies will be patrolling the lakes to help make it a fun and safe weekend for everyone. No matter what kind of steering wheel you’re holding this weekend, one message is consistent…don’t drink and drive. All of the Sheriff’s Deputies working this weekend, land or water, will be keeping a watchful eye on drivers who’ve had too much to drink. So celebrate responsibly and designate a sober driver. ###
