CULTURAL AFFAIRS COMMISSION SEEKS VISUAL ARTWORK

January 16, 2009
Karen Crossley, 266-5915
County Executive

Attention local visual artists!  The Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission seeks artwork representing Dane County for its signature products:  the 2011 art calendar and 2010 art poster and bookmark.  The 2011 calendar will be the 12th edition and the 2010 poster the 29th in an annual series.  Each year, thousands of calendars, posters, and bookmarks are distributed throughout Dane County and beyond.  They have become beloved icons that highlight the vitality of Dane County’s artistic and cultural landscape.

Two-dimensional art in all mediums will be considered.  Selections will be made from images submitted.  Fourteen images will be chosen for the calendar and one image will be chosen for the poster and bookmark.  Selection criteria applied by the Cultural Affairs Commission’s Art Advisory Committee include:  artistic quality, representation of Dane County throughout the year, market appeal, and illustration of a theme.  Artists must be Wisconsin residents at the time of application and Dane County artists receive preference.

Application deadline is September 1, 2009.  For details related to submitting art for consideration, see http://www.culturalaffairscommissoin.com/ or call 608-266-5915.  All visual artists are welcomed and encouraged to submit their art.  Tenth Anniversary Art Calendar Retrospective displaying all ten Cultural Affairs Commission art calendars (2000-2009) presently is showing at Overture Center in Madison (Playhouse Lobby, Lower Level).
