Dane County 175th Celebration Marches on With Birthday Themed Badger Bash, Historical Society Event

The University of Wisconsin-Madison’s pre-game Badger Bash will turn into a special birthday bash for Dane County’s 175th this Saturday, Dane County Executive Joe Parisi announced today. The County Executive will join Professor Leckrone and the UW Marching Band as they lead the crowd in celebrating with a Dane County 175th Anniversary themed program beginning at 1:30pm.
“From our top-notch UW Marching Band to local historians and artists, the community support the county has received for its 175th celebration has been tremendous,” said Parisi. “I encourage Dane County’s residents to join the party in these final months of our year-long event.”
Later that week, Wisconsin Historical Society Press author Bob Kann will lead a lively retelling of Dane County’s 175-year history. Stories will include Dane County’s formation, turning points, and early residents. The talk will take place on Thursday, Nov 10th from 7:00-8:30 pm at the Wisconsin Historical Museum on the capital square in Madison.
In addition to these special events, time still remains to check out two ongoing exhibits dedicated to Dane County’s history and cultural heritage. The Dane County Regional Airport is home to a rotating display that explores the history of the county, while the Social Justice Center’s Jackie Macaulay Gallery (1202 Williamson Street) is currently displaying new editions and past favorites of over 3 decades of the Cultural Affairs Commission’s annual art posters.
Residents can also complete their 2011 Dane County Passports before the snow flies. Three passports exist that can introduce, or reacquaint, area families with Dane County’s outdoors. The passports highlight the Dane County Yahara Chain of Lakes, Early Settlers of Dane County, and the Glacial History of Dane County. Each passport comes with fun trivia – passport holders can submit their answers online and enter to win $25 toward passes to enjoy Dane County parks, trails and waterways.
