Beer and Work Attire on the Line in Showdown between Wisconsin, Texas Christian

Acting Dane County Executive Scott McDonell and his counterpart in Tarrant County Texas, County Judge B. Glen Whitley, have agreed to a friendly wager in advance of the Rose Bowl showdown between the University of Wisconsin and Texas Christian University (TCU).

McDonell, with the help of Capital Brewery, has agreed to send Whitley a case of Capital Brewery beer and wear a TCU sweatshirt through his workday on Thursday January 6th in the unlikely scenario the Horned Frogs “leapfrog” the Badgers.

The more likely outcome is that Whitely will send McDonell some Texas brewed beer and have to don a Wisconsin Badgers sweatshirt at his next Tarrant County Board of Commissioners Meeting on January 6th.

“Once our Badgers de-horn the Horned Frogs, Judge Whitley will be able to proudly display some Cardinal and White at work,” McDonell said.  “If the Badgers fall short Saturday, I guess I’ll have to swallow my pride and put on a little purple.”

January 1st is not only the day of the big Rose Bowl game, but it also marks the start of Capital Brewery’s 25th year of locally brewing German style beers.

“Whether it’s our Capital Brewery Wisconsin Amber or Capital’s Supper Club, our beers are here to form lifetime alliances based on trust, quality, and devotion to the phrase 'Leisure with Dignity,'" Capital Brewery Brewmaster Kirby Nelson said.  “Our tremendous success over the past 25 years is due to all of our wonderful beer advocates.”

Texas Christian Universityis located in Forth Worth, Texas, which is the county seat of Tarrant County.  The county’s population is 1.8 million.  Tarrant County doesn’t have a County Executive; instead, it elects a County Judge to preside over the County Commissioners Court, which has similar budget and policy making responsibilities to those of the Dane County Board.
