Resurfacing, Wider Shoulders Included in Highway KP Project

Work to improve Dane County Highway KP from Cross Plains through the Village of Black Earth and to the Village of Mazomanie starts Monday, July 12th.

In addition to resurfacing the highway, crews will also pave the shoulders along Highway KP in an effort to make it safer for motorists and bicyclists.

“Because of this improvement project, a highway that winds through some of the most scenic parts of our county will be safer for all,” County Executive Kathleen Falk said.

Dane County Highway Department crews have spent the past couple of weeks replacing drainage structures and improving the shoulders along the road in advance of laying the wider pavement.

The $1.6 million improvement project is being funded jointly by Dane County and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.  The state has contracted with Scott Construction to resurface the roadway, which was used as an unofficial detour during the U.S. Highway 14 reconstruction project last summer.  The county is paying $600,000 for improvements to the shoulders of the highway.

While the highway will remain open throughout the duration of the project, motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes and expect delays while crews work to improve the highway.

The project is expected to be completed around the end of this month.
