A Madison-based company is re-locating an operating facility it had in Illinois to DeForest, thanks to help from Dane County’s Department of Planning and Development.

Remington, a subsidiary of Spectrum Brands, is moving a warehouse and shipping facility to 505 Stokely Avenue in DeForest.  Dane County’s Economic Development Support Specialist worked with the company to help develop a portfolio of suitable sites for their new operation, and facilitated a two-day tour for Remington executives to meet with local representatives, and review the potential locations.

That site selection process resulted in Remington selecting a facility in DeForest, and signing a lease in January 2010.  Doors will officially open at the 50,000 square foot facility on March 1st and provide employment for 10-15 workers.

“County government is helping whenever and wherever it can to help promote new opportunities to create jobs and get more folks back to work,” County Executive Kathleen Falk said.  “It’s for that reason county staff worked so closely with Remington officials to research and identify potential sites and communities we felt were a good match for them to re-locate.”

Remington manufactures and markets a number of personal care consumer products.  It is a division of Spectrum Brands (formerly Rayovac) and employs over 400 people in Dane County, a total of 860 in Wisconsin and 5,700 worldwide.
