Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk announced today that Carl Hampton will begin work in her office on Monday, April 5th as an Executive Assistant.  That position in the Executive’s office has been vacant for nine months.

Hampton has been a longtime policy advisor to both Governor Jim Doyle and Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold.  His primary responsibilities in the County Executive’s office will be to work on human services and criminal justice policy matters.

“Carl’s diverse background and extensive experience in both state and federal government make him the perfect choice to help our county team work on issues most important to citizens – human services and public safety,” Falk said.  She noted more than 70% of the county budget each year is dedicated to these services.

Hampton currently serves as Legislative/External Relations Coordinator for Governor Doyle and prior to that was the Governor’s liaison for state agencies on workforce development and criminal justice policy matters.  Before his work with the Governor, Hampton was a Regional Coordinator for Senator Feingold and a Legislative Aide to Senator Feingold on issues related to housing and community development.

Prior to that he worked as an attorney for Centro Legal por Derechos Humanos Inc. where he represented clients in cases involving family, children, and criminal law.  He also did legal work on behalf of abused and neglected children for Legal Aid Society.

Hampton has been a member of the Wisconsin State Bar since August of 1999.

Hampton earned his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1999.  He graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor of arts in Political Science in 1994.

Hampton lives in Madison and his starting salary will be $62,732 a year.
