Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk announced this evening the county has reached a tentative agreement with the Dane County Sheriff’s Deputy Supervisors (Sergeants and Lieutenants) on a contract for 2010 and 2011.  The agreement is similar to that reached with all the other county unions.

The County Board will vote this evening to approve the offer agreed to between the county and its 45 sheriff’s supervisors.  This agreement is for the deputy supervisors in the sheriff’s department only.  Negotiations are ongoing between the county and the sheriff’s deputies union and good progress was made during constructive talks Thursday.

The tentative agreement with the supervisors includes the same provision as all the other county unions have ratified:  a 3% voluntary salary reduction for 2010 in exchange for eight additional days off and a guarantee of no layoffs in 2010.  In addition, the agreement includes a 3% pay increase on December 17, 2011.

“Reaching this agreement took a lot of work, but in the interests of fairness and shared sacrifice in these incredibly tough economic times, we kept at it,” County Executive Kathleen Falk said.

Declines in sales tax, real estate fees and other economic related revenues collected by counties (not cities, villages, or towns) combined with state budget cuts resulted in a $12.5-million reduction in funding available for next year’s budget.   If all county employees agree to a 3% salary reduction for 2010, that will result in $4.7-million in savings and preserve county public safety and human services in the year ahead.
