While viewing the camera monitoring system in the jail, a deputy witnessed an inmate hanging in a cell by a sheet. Deputies immediately responded to the cell. Medical Staff immediately evaluated the man. The inmate was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated. The inmate later returned to the jail. He was placed in an area of the jail where he can be more closely monitored.
The 29-year-old man, from Madison, is being held in the Dane County Jail awaiting trial on charges of Disorderly Conduct, Unlawful Use of a Telephone, Resisting, and Bail Jumping.
In 2008, the Dane County Jail added 71 cameras to the Dane County Jail, City-County Building along with updating the video monitoring system. This system was instrumental in deputies being alerted to and preventing this suicide attempt.
