Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk said today the county has been awarded the “Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting” by the Government Finance Officers Association.

The award is the highest form of recognition given in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.  The Government Finance Officers Association gives the award to governments that “demonstrate a constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story.”

“This award is testament to county government’s commitment to be responsible, frugal stewards of the hard-earned dollars of taxpayers,” Falk said.  “Just like successful businesses, the county is prudently managing money, while increasing investments in areas like public safety, human services, and roads.”

Falk also noted Dane County received another round of AAA ratings, the highest bond rating possible.  Dane is one of only two counties in the state and a handful in the county to receive the highest marks possible for money management.  The high rating means the county is able to borrow money at the lowest rate, which saves taxpayers money on capital projects like construction of the new Badger Prairie Nursing Home and  road construction projects.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association that serves approximately 16,000 government finance professionals.  Certificate of achievement are judged by an impartial panel.
