Dane County Distributes Bike Grant Dollars during “Bike to Work” Week

New and Improved Bike Paths, Bicycle Safety Programs Benefit 13 Dane County communities will share $50,000 in County bike grant funding County Executive Kathleen Falk announced today. The grants will help communities with the construction of new paths and upgrading existing ones. Bicycle safety programs will also benefit from the grant dollars. “With gas prices at new record highs more people are choosing to hop on a bike instead of into a car. Whether it’s pedaling to and from work or just for fun, these dollars will help make our communities better and safer for bicyclists,” Falk said. Dane County bike grant funds will help link the Swan Creek Neighborhood in Fitchburg to the Capitol City trail and Quisling Park in the City of Middleton north to the Tallard Conservancy in the Town of Middleton. The grants will also help cover the cost of extending a bike path along South Town Drive in the City of Monona along with a new path being developed in the Village of Oregon from Highway CC to the Netherwood Road Bike Path. The grants will help Stoughton pave a section of the Yahara River Trail and Marshall construct a path from Deerhaven Park to Converse Park. Every year Dane County awards various grants to its 60 communities. A complete list of all the 2008 Dane County bike grant recipients is attached. # # #
