Major Improvements Planned for Highway Linking Mount Horeb, Blue Mounds (Madison)….Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk announced today work will get underway this spring to resurface and recondition County Highway “ID” between Mount Horeb and Blue Mounds. In addition to re-paving the road so motorists have a smoother drive, additional turn lanes will be added at intersections to make the highway safer. Highway “ID” is frequently traveled by tourists visiting attractions like Blue Mounds State Park, Brigham County Park, Cave of the Mounds, Little Norway and Tyrol Basin. “Whether it’s taking a scenic drive or just getting to work a lot of folks will benefit from a new and improved Highway “ID,” Falk said. “We have the contractor ready to go so when construction season starts, work can begin.” Initial bids for the project last fall came in over budget. After a competitive bidding process was reopened this winter, a bid from B.R. Amon and Sons of Elkhorn was selected at a savings of nearly a half million dollars to taxpayers. County Board Supervisor Pat Downing said re-doing this five mile stretch of Highway “ID” will be a boon to the approximately 2300 motorists who use the road daily. "When I got to the county board, I made it my first priority to get this into the budget and get the work done,” Downing said. The fact that we'll be able to resurface “ID” and save taxpayers a half million dollars while we do it is a pretty good deal." The project will be paid for through a combination of $1.8-million in county, state, and federal funding. # # #
