“Dane911.com” Launched to Inform Public of 9-1-1 Service Information about how the Dane County 9-1-1 Center works is now a couple of computer clicks away thanks to a new website launched this week by the Public Safety Communications Center. The website includes information about how the 9-1-1 Center works, what people can expect to be asked when they dial 9-1-1 and what information they can provide that’s helpful for dispatchers relaying emergency calls to police, fire, and emergency medical service (EMS) agencies. People will also find useful information about the differences in dialing 9-1-1 from cell-phones and landlines and recommendations that will help reduce the number 9-1-1 calls placed by mistake to the center. “Dane911.com links the public with important information that may someday help save a life,” County Executive Kathleen Falk said. “It also offers an inside look at the hard work done everyday by our 9-1-1 Center professionals.” In addition, the new website will soon include weekly reports of calls handled by the 9-1-1 Center including data detailing the number of incidents where police, fire, and EMS agencies were dispatched. Work on the website started months ago as part of a public education initiative 911 Center Director Joe Norwick embarked upon when hired for the job in July of 2007.
