Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk today announced Dane County has filed for intervenor status in the pending American Transmission Company proposal to construct high-voltage power lines in the county. The motion was filed to the state Public Service Commission by the Dane County Corporation Counsel on August 16 in response to a County-Board approved resolution signed by Falk in late May. The state commission will decide whether the power lines are needed in Dane County and, if so, where they will be located. “The first purpose of the county’s intervention is to make sure there is a fair, objective analysis of whether any of these lines is needed,” Falk said. “If these lines are needed, I want to make sure they do not hurt the county’s trails, parks and natural resources.” County Board Chairman Scott McDonell agreed, stressing an independent study is necessary for the public trust. “We need to take a step back and review, from a trusted source, whether we need this power line or not,” McDonell said. The latest county action follows Falk’s April letter to the PSC calling for an independent study of the project. # # #
