Executive Falk Supports County Highway Transfer, Safety Study for Sun Prairie

Dane County and the City of Sun Prairie will swap jurisdiction of a county highway stretch and complete a traffic study under a pending agreement County Executive Kathleen Falk calls fair and responsive to the growth under way in the city. “This is a fair agreement that the City of Sun Prairie and the county developed to maintain safe roads in their community,” Falk said of the agreement that calls for the city to take over jurisdiction of County Highway N while the county continues its coverage of County Highway C. “Under the agreement, the county will maintain responsibility for a road serving a more regional function.” The pending agreement, scheduled to go before the County Board at its July 20 meeting, also calls for the City of Sun Prairie to conduct a traffic study in 2010 to determine whether the city or the county should accept to determine the jurisdiction of County Trunk Highway C from U.S. Highway 12/18 to State Highway 19. The resolution has been approved by the county Public Works and Transportation Committee. Falk is optimistic the County Board will pass it at the board’s July 20th meeting. # # #
