Federal Dollars to Help Build New Stoughton Youth Center and Tornado Shelter in Dunn Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk said today the county has secured federal funding to help with construction of a new Youth Center in the city of Stoughton and a new tornado shelter in the town of Dunn. “We’re happy to help these communities with these important projects,” Falk said. “This funding will help make a bigger and better Youth Center a reality in Stoughton and help construct a state of the art storm shelter in Dunn to keep people safe when the skies turn dark.” Money for the projects will come from nearly $1.7 million in federal funding Falk and county officials worked to secure. The funding will be distributed through the Community Development Block Grant, Home Investment Partnerships (HOME), and American Dream Down-payment Initiatives and come from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Stoughton Area Community Foundation will receive $25,000 to help with the ongoing renovation of a warehouse into a Youth Center with enough space to accommodate younger and older teens. The town of Dunn will receive $30,000 to build a tornado/storm shelter on land donated to the township by the owner of the Bayview Heights Mobile Home Park. “We work hard to make sure Dane County gets these dollars because these programs are so important to so many people,” Falk said. “The CDBG Commission is so pleased to be able to work in partnership with local citizens on these great projects,” Supervisor Donna Vogel, chairwoman of the CDBG Commission, said. Distribution of the annual grants will follow the recommendations of the CDBG commission and action by the county board, which is expected in the near future. Grants are selected after a competitive application process that includes opportunities for public input # # #
