Projects to improve, protect and enhance Dane County’s land and water resources are eligible for grants up to $5,000 under a new program announced today by Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk and the Dane County Environmental Council. As part of Falk’s Land and Water Legacy Initiative in its first year, grants from the $25,000 conservation program will be awarded to organizations working on conservation and habitat restoration projects that improve water quality in Dane County. “It’s important to work with our dedicated conservation organizations,” Falk said. “With these new partnerships, we can make substantial improvements to our environment and maintain the quality of life county residents want.” Grants will fund innovative conservation improvements to the land or equipment needed to install or maintain those types of projects. Members of the Dane County Environmental Council are appointed by Falk and approved by the Dane County Board of Supervisors. The council’s mission is to help groups in recognizing and protecting natural areas in the county and to educate about environmental conservation and protection. Grant applications may be downloaded from the Dane County Environmental Council Web site at: http://www.countyofdane.com/commissions/environmentalcouncil/.
