Private businessman to open home furnishings shop A Stoughton businessman will realize his dream of opening a home furnishing store in the downtown district thanks to a pending $35,000 loan from the Dane County Commercial Revitalization Loan Fund. “The purpose of this special county fund is to help people like Jason Felland create businesses to add to the local job market and to encourage private investments in older commercial areas,” Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk said. “Jason’s vision to turn a building that’s at least 100 years old into a business is a project the County is happy to support.” The $35,000 loan is up for approval by the Dane County Board of Supervisors at their May 17 meeting. After board action, the resolution returns to Falk for her final action. Felland plans to locate his business – Depot Hill Furnishings – inside the building next to the former railroad depot on Main Street in Stoughton. The building housed a lumber business for about 100 years and has sat vacant for years. Depot Hill is proposed to sell, build and repair lines of home furnishings. Felland’s business proposal would help revitalize the Depot Hill district which is on the eastern edge of the downtown area. The City of Stoughton and Dane County have partnered to prepare a redevelopment plan for the district. The county gave the city two planning grants to prepare revitalization plans for the district. # # #
