Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk today (2/18/05) appointed Kevin Connors as the first department director of Dane County’s Land & Water Resources Department. The new department was created as a result of Falk’s consolidation of the Land Conservation Department, the Parks Department, and the Lakes & Watershed Division and the County Board’s approval in the 2005 budget. Mr. Connors has been the Dane County Conservationist, the head of the Land Conservation Department, since 1977. Falk commented: “Kevin Connors has been recognized by Dane County elected officials, citizens, and his peers as one of the best County Conservationists in the state. Under his leadership, Dane County has significantly reduced soil erosion and has restored wetlands and trout streams. He is remarkable in the superb service he offers to farmers and urban communities trying to control storm water and runoff.” She continued: “Kevin showed a great spirit of innovation and cooperation in working with county policymakers and staff to prepare for the creation and implementation of the new department. He is uniquely qualified to be its first director.” Mr. Connors is a 1975 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.S. degree in Agricultural Mechanization Management. He is a member of the Wisconsin Land Information Association and is former President of the Wisconsin Chapter of the Soil & Water Conservation Society. He has received awards for his work in conservation and the modernization of land records from the Wisconsin Land Information Association, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and the United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service. Mr. Connors, a resident of Madison, is married to Anita Connors and has two daughters, Stephanie and Kimberly. His starting salary is $88,116; his initial contract will be for five years. # # #
