Report Shows Weed Cutting on Area Lakes at 13-year High Level

The attached memo and chart tracks weed cutting on area lakes since 1986. As of August 8, with the exception 2001, Dane County Public Works has harvested more weeds from County lakes than in the last 13 years, and the county will continue to harvest weeds until about September 6. When the harvesting is completed and the totals for this year are counted, the number may exceed 2001, also. For Lake Waubesa, Dane County has harvested more weeds this year than in the last five years combined. It has been 13 years since the county has taken this many weeds from Lake Waubesa.
