Public Hearing / Information & Input Meeting April 23 Seeks Input on Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Home Investments Partnership Program (HOME) Consolidated Plan for 2004-2008 Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk today announced a public hearing for people to provide input on how best to use federal dollars for community development and affordable housing in the county over the next five years. A five-year plan is required by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the county to access approximately $9 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME funds from 2004-2008. WHEN: Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at 5:00 p.m. WHERE: Alliant Energy Center (Waubesa and Kegonsa Rooms) 1919 Alliant Energy Center Way Madison, WI The plan will address overall housing, economic development, public service, and infrastructure needs for communities outside the city of Madison. Grants for next year, 2004, are estimated to be $1,225,000 for CDBG and $550,000 for HOME. “Keeping our communities vibrant places to live, work and play is a high priority of mine,” said Falk. “In the past five years these dollars have helped make downtowns more attractive, have allowed families to buy a first home, and made it possible for small businesses to get started. Now is the time for ideas for spending priorities for the next five years of the program,” said Falk. The county’s CDBG Program began in 1999, with 43 Dane County municipalities (5 cities, 32 towns, 6 villages) participating. Since that time, Dane County was successful in applying for federal Home Investment Partnership Program (HOME) funds, in addition to CDBG funds, and five additional communities have joined to the consortium. Falk said she encourages the public and local elected officials to attend the April 23 Public Hearing to learn more about the county CDBG and HOME Programs and how they can benefit participating communities; learn about eligible projects and activities; provide recommendations on the development of the plan; and talk with Dane County staff about ways to get involved and stay abreast of CDBG and HOME related initiatives. Any persons planning to attend the hearing who need a sign language interpreter, materials in alternate formats or languages, or other accommodations to access this meeting, please contact the Dane County CDBG office at (608) 261-9781, TTY (608) 266-9138, or email at cdbg@co.dane.wi.us at least 72 hours in advance so that arrangements can be made. # # #
