County Executive Falk Signs County Legislation Related to Chronic Wasting Disease Bans Feeding of Deer; Establishes Task Force on CWD

Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk this morning signed into law an ordinance banning the intentional feeding of deer in all the unincorporated areas of Dane County. Intentional feeding of deer can cause high numbers of deer to congregate in small areas. These higher densities enable CWD to spread more quickly through a deer herd. The penalty for intentionally feeding deer will range from $100 to $300. At the same time, Falk signed a resolution creating a Dane County Task Force on CWD to address issues regarding the response to CWD in the county’s deer population. “I signed these measures into law at the earliest possible time,” said Falk. “I want to be as helpful as possible in efforts to stop the spread of this disease in the state’s deer herd.” The Dane County Board of Supervisors passed the two resolutions at their meeting Thursday night. # # #
