Hubing named Vilas Zoo director

Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk has appointed Jim Hubing to be the Director of the Henry Vilas Zoo. Hubing had been serving as Interim Director since September 18, 2000. "Jim Hubing is the right person at the right time to lead our wonderful zoo," said Falk. "We knew when we appointed him Interim Director that he had an extensive knowledge of county government and excellent management skills. While serving as Interim Director, Jim's real dedication to the zoo, and his ability to work with the public and the Zoological Society has really shone through. It's good news that he has agreed to accept the permanent position." Hubing is a former Director of the Dane County Department of Administration and Director of Employee Relations for the CUNA Mutual Group. "I consider it a privilege to work for the County's Henry Vilas Zoo," said Hubing. It is an outstanding zoo and I have a terrific staff. I am grateful for the support I have received from the county's leaders and the Zoological Society." Hubing has led the zoo through the fourth and final phase of "ReZoovenation," which is adding a three-story, 10,000 square foot Aviary, with a planned completion date of spring 2002. Hubing will be paid $63,000. The contract will be introduced to the County Board at tonight's (10/04/01) meeting.
