Due to the forecast for heavy snow and strong winds, Dane County government will close its non-essential operations January 12, 2024. This means non-essential, in-person services will be closed. Essential public safety services will continue to operate through the storm.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Dane County from 3:00 a.m. Friday morning until Noon on Saturday. Total snow accumulations between 8 to 13 inches are expected, along with winds gusting as high as 35 miles per hour. This is expected to create hazardous travel conditions Friday, with reduced visibilities due to the blowing snow. Travel could be very difficult tomorrow, especially in more rural, open areas of the county where drifting snow is expected.

Dane County’s Emergency Operations Center will monitor the storm and assist with coordinating the county’s response as conditions change.

It is based on this anticipated weather event taking place during normal work hours that Dane County will activate its Plan for Suspending County Government Operations and close non-essential operations.
