DANE COUNTY BOARD TO HEAR PRESENTATION ON A REGIONAL HOUSING STRATEGY

The Dane County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to hear a presentation from Olivia Parry, Senior Planner with Dane County’s Planning and Development Department, on a Regional Housing Strategy for Dane County.

The presentation will provide a background on the shortage of affordable and workforce housing in Dane County, as well as the next steps the county intends to take to address this urgent issue.

"Too many people struggle to find affordable, quality, and stable housing in Dane County. For far too long, misguided and purposefully discriminatory policy decisions at all levels have perpetuated unnecessary housing insecurity and inequitable housing outcomes. We must have a comprehensive regional plan for making progress on this issue," said County Board Supervisor Mike Bare (District 32), who also serves on the Dane County Housing Authority.

A Regional Housing Strategy provides an opportunity for communities to come together and identify shared goals, priorities, and strategies to meet the resident, community, and employer housing needs of the region for the next 10-20 years.

Dane County’s Regional Housing Strategy will build on the work Dane County, communities, and organizations are doing to address the housing supply gap, and meet the needs of residents and the region’s employers.

Components of this work will include comprehensive community engagement and a broad-based advisory team from the region including residents, non-profit representatives, large employers, elected officials, small businesses, housing stakeholders and agencies, local government staff, builders and developers.

"We need to act now to make sure everyone in Dane County has an affordable place to live, regardless of your location, occupation or life circumstances," said County Board Chair Analiese Eicher.

The presentation will take place at the beginning of the Board meeting tonight, which begins at 7:00 p.m. The public is able to attend the virtual meeting or register to speak by following the information at the top of the agenda: https://dane.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=A&ID=814086&GUID=ABE53C30-3325-41EA-93BF-7BE71C1EDF62
