COUNTY BOARD TO CONSIDER MEASURES TO ADDRESS THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

The Dane County Board of Supervisors will hold a virtual meeting on Thursday October 1, at 7:00pm, information for the public to connect is available at the top of the agenda. Several of the items on the agenda are in response to the ongoing pandemic.
When the pandemic brought the world to a halt earlier this year, Dane County received federal CARES Act funds to use for COVID-19 related expenses. The Board previously approved food insecurity as a top priority to address in the current crisis and is now reaffirming its commitment . One of the items on the agenda includes adding $2 million to the previously approved food program to supplement the resources available to supply food pantries. The contract for this program is with Second Harvest Food Bank.
"As we continue to weather this storm, we need to make sure our most vulnerable populations are fed. Adding these funds to this program is critical to make sure we are able to make this happen," said County Board Chair Analiese Eicher.
Public Health Madison Dane County announced earlier this week that the staffing for the Alliant Energy Center COVID-19 testing site will be transitioned from the National Guard to Public Health Madison Dane County. The County Board will consider a resolution to award a contract to Maxim, Inc. to continue to staff the testing site. The contract in the amount of $730,000 would run through the end of 2020.
The Board will also consider an additional contract with Maxim, Inc. to provide contact tracing services for Public Health Madison Dane County. One of the tools public health officials use to contain the spread of COVID-19 is efficient, thorough contact tracing. To supplement the work of the Public Health Madison Dane County staff doing contact tracing, Maxim, Inc. would provide this service. If awarded, the $1.1 million contract will be paid out of the federal CARES Act funds the county received.
The County Board will also consider the following items related to the pandemic:
- A resolution urging the University of Wisconsin-Madison to discontinue in-person classes
- An extension of the Declaration of Emergency in Dane County. If approved, the extension would end on December 31, 2020.
