Blue Mounds Homicide Investigation

Madison, WI. January 15, 2020 – The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a hit and run vehicle vs. pedestrian crash resulting in the death of a 26-year-old Blue Mounds man. 

The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was running southbound towards Mt. Horeb on County Highway JG just south of Bergum Rd. in the Town of Blue Mounds when he was struck by an unknown vehicle.   Based on witnesses who reported seeing the victim running in the area, it is believed the incident occurred sometime between 12:45 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15th.   The victim was wearing running type attire and it is believed he was running near the shoulder of the road facing oncoming traffic. 

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in gathering any information related to this incident.  Anyone who was in the area during this time frame who may have information to provide is asked to contact the Dane County Communication Center non-emergency line at 608-255-2345 or the Dane County Sheriff’s Tips Line at 608-284-6900.  All callers can remain anonymous.

***UPDATE***

January 16, 2020 – Preliminary autopsy results by the Dane County Medical Examiner show the victims death was not the result of a motor-vehicle crash.  The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this incident as a homicide.

Investigators continue to seek the public’s assistance with gathering any information related to this crime. Anyone in the area of CTH JG near Bergum Road in the town of Blue Mounds between the hours of 12:45 pm and 1:15 pm on Wednesday, January 15, is asked to call the Dane County Communications Center non-emergency line at 608-255-2345 or the Dane County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 608-284-6900.  All callers can remain anonymous.

Detectives will spend the day speaking with residents in the area, and are seeking any video that might have been captured from businesses or home surveillance cameras.
